The beach
Two different accounts of the walk to Bingin Beach are floating around online. Both are accurate, because they describe two different paths. Here is the one we use.
The route we use
Access to the sand runs through a farm property, and it is closer to us than the old car park route ever was: roughly a five minute walk. Ade walks it with every guest on their first morning, so nobody has to work it out from a map.
Ignore Google Maps here
Google Maps still routes people to the paid car park and down what used to be about 187 concrete steps. Those stairs were demolished in July 2025 along with 48 structures on the cliff, and some of that debris is still there. If a map sends you that way, it is not the route we walk.
Is the beach open?
Yes. The beach and the sand are open and people are surfing it. The cliff above is still an active works zone while Badung Regency rebuilds. Travellers have cancelled bookings believing Bingin was closed. It is not.
Tides

Eat & drink
Cashew Tree
1 minute walk and a favourite. WhatsApp a takeaway order and pick it up to eat by the pool. Thursday nights there is live music until 10pm, and it is loud at the villa, so you may as well go and enjoy it.

On the cliff at Bingin, open from 6am until late. Baked goods and coffee in the morning, then a wood fired grill in the evening. They do not take bookings and it fills up fast for sunset, so get there early or be happy on a beanbag.
Pak Gula Bingin
From the same team as Cashew Tree, a new two storey place in the heart of Bingin and about a five minute walk from us. Indonesian sharing plates, bao buns, dumplings, satay and curries, meant to be ordered in rounds. Worth booking, it gets busy.
Ulu Fish Market Bingin
Fresh seafood and sushi on Jalan Labuansait, a short drive from us. Hawaiian, Japanese and Peruvian influences, so everything from grilled mahi mahi to sushi and California rolls, set in a tropical garden. There is a kids menu too. Open midday until 11pm.
Motel Mexicola Bingin
The Uluwatu outpost of Motel Mexicola, opened July 2026, and it is right on our street. Enormous, loud and beautiful: Baja California styling, a 21 metre bell tower, open fire cooking, tacos and plates built for sharing. Book ahead.
Bingin Family
Good local warung cuisine from a lovely local family, easy walking distance.
Davino Casa Asia
Italian, good pizzas. Free delivery or takeaway if you WhatsApp them.
Gooseberry Cafe
10 minute walk. Modern cafe with a great cocktail and wine list, indoor and outdoor seating, delicious lunch and dinner.
Mu's
Sunset seafood BBQ with an ocean view, and amazing homemade pasta. About a 5 minute walk from us. You must book.

6 to 8 minutes on a bike towards Uluwatu. Traditional nasi campur, pick from the window and fill a plate. Corn fritters, rice, curry, tempeh, usually a few dollars in total.
Lola's Mexican
10 minutes towards Uluwatu. Great nachos and guacamole, pool tables, and a good night life spot.
Sushimi
10 minutes on a bike. A beautiful air-conditioned sushi train, very good quality. Close to Uluwatu.
La Baracca
Our favourite Italian, past Padang Padang, 10 minutes towards Uluwatu. Pizza and pasta, a cute date night, but casual enough for the kids.
Sunset
Sundays Beach Club
15 minute drive. Lounges, restaurant, cocktails and special events, with a bonfire on the beach from 5pm. Get there early, it books out.

Right on the Bingin cliffs and the easiest sunset to reach from here. No bookings taken and tables are limited, so arrive early and expect a beanbag. Open from 6am until late.

2 minutes on a bike at the end of Jalan Pantai Bingin. Great breakfasts, chill vibes, famous for the brekkie burrito.
Suka
10 minute drive towards Uluwatu. Known for coffee and breakfast, and the pancakes are always a hit with kids. They grind beans too, filter grind.
Getting around
ATMs
Closest is inside Wana Mart, across the road from Drifter Cafe. More at Brother Mart towards Padang Padang. Take your card with you, the cash comes out first.
Drivers
There are a number of local drivers in Bingin. Our villa manager can arrange one. Agree the cost in advance and pay the driver directly in cash.
Trisna Motor
Who we rent scooters from. A friendly local who lives opposite Cashew Tree, and he will bring the bike to the villa.

GoJek
Download the GoJek app. Motorbike or car pick ups, and a very effective way to get around.
A note on bikes
Motorbike is at your own risk. Please drive safely and wear a helmet. You are in Bali now, there is no need to rush.
The villa

Network Madu Bungalow, password Relaxtime1. Please ask the staff if there are any issues.
Privacy
If you would like more privacy, just let the staff or villa manager know and housekeeping can finish earlier.
Check out
11:00 am and strictly no later. We can hold luggage in our store room if needed.
Gratuity
If you are happy with the service during your stay, a tip to the staff is always hugely appreciated by them.
Insects
Insects, bugs, mosquitoes and geckos are part of the Bali nature adventure. Put the mosquito nets down before the sun sets. There is bug spray in each room.
Air conditioning
Keep doors and windows closed while it is running, it conserves energy and works far better. Please switch the AC and fans off when you are out.
Smoking
Madu Bungalow has an alang alang grass roof, which is highly flammable, so this is a non-smoking villa. If you must smoke outside, please be very mindful of your butts and dispose of them properly.
Fire extinguishers
Located in each bathroom, for emergency use only.
Security
When you go out, please lock all doors and put personal belongings away. There is a safe for valuables. The villa manager holds the master pin code for emergencies.
Laundry
There is a laundry down the road next to Star Star Mart, usually a bag back in 2 days, or pay extra for express. Our favourite is Go Laundry, a bit further along Jalan Pantai Bingin.
Bed linen & towels
Changed every 3 days. Please help us by hanging your towels up to dry. Pool towels are for use inside the villa boundary only. Charges apply for badly stained or missing towels.
Drinking water
Do not drink the tap water or brush your teeth with it. Small bottles of Aqua are provided at check in for your teeth, and there is a water dispenser in the kitchen for refills.
Power cuts
These happen fairly regularly in Bingin but are generally short lived. The villa manager or grounds keeper will show you the circuit breakers and the pool light switch when you arrive.
